August 2006
Local Government Online, together with Hutt City Council have just begun piloting Readynet, the web-based Emergency Preparedness Network developed by Information Power for Emergency Management Associates. Hutt City Emergency Management Controller Paul Nickalls said the "... software provided another tool to plug a key gap for this organisation."
The Network assembles, stores and shares emergency management information for connected sites. The system is available on-line to Emergency Services 24 x 7, ensuring that they have access to the right information, at the right time and the right place.
"Put it this way", explains Mr Nickalls, "If I received a tsunami warning now, I could have a text and email message to every Rest Home in our city very quickly, And Rest Homes are just one example ...imagine if they had had this ... in the Indonesian tsunami."
The pilot is expected to run for two to three months. The results will then be independently evaluated.
September 2007 Update
